Lets just say that the future will be a bit more glitchy.

Video: Rye Rye: "Bang" (Directed by M.I.A.)

M.I.A.s first (that I know of) video directorial effort (for Rye Rye's "Bang") reminds me of my favorite era of MTV, before dance music was neatly packaged up as "Electronica" so that old dudes in large meeting rooms could be bothered to half-heartedly push it as a commercial phenomenon. But I digress...

This makes me wish I'd grown up in Bmore (well, that and John Waters. He cracks me up.)

Richie Hawtin, Mancrush

Hah, not in any serious sense, but I just love when he gives these sorts of interviews, because he reaffirms my beliefs in what music can be and why one should be true to oneself.

I first saw this posted @ Phase02

Dirty Disco Youth >> Stupid Sound

Dirty Disco Youth's STUPID SOUND EP will be infecting your earholes on June 24 on Kinetika Records, and mang is it a banger. The original mix of this is a sweaty overdriven rave-til-dead gauntlet, where the Sick Boy remix takes things a little more organic and worldly with the percussion sounds and rhythms, but retains that intense roller-coaster synth on a bed of throb'n'rumble bass to vibrate your sensitive areas. Grab the EP for the other tracks, including a DRLKT FREDDIE remix.

Geronimo Festival PICS

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

I'd uploaded these a little bit ago, but I hadn't shared them on the blog officially... Now if only I could get some photos of ME playin' out (in the style that I shoot).

*sigh*

I need a cloning device.

My APC40 has landed. HIDE YOUR CHILDREN.

HELL YEAH

After waiting almost half a year from the time I pre-ordered, I finally have the APC40 in my grubby mitts. I went ahead and also bought the Ableton Live 8 upgrade (from Lite) since Live Lite (even the APC Edition) is kind of a cruel tease. (Sez me... although it's no worse than the earlier versions of Live, which, in their time, were mind-blowingly awesome.)
I hope to have a revised and solid workflow by the end of the week. and maybe I can jam this out @ the Fanu show in two weeks.

Thanks for helping contribute to an awesome New Orleans music project! "Electronola - An electronic gumbo of New Orleans music"

UPDATE: As you can see in the above widget, Earl has successfully raised the fundage needed to make the Electronola album a reality! Thanks to all who kicked in a bit to make it happen!

My mang Earl (aka Madd Wikkid) needs your support in order to make this project a reality...

here's the copy verbatim from Earl's project pitch:

For a long time I've been living a double life: as "The Madd Wikkid", a producer of electronic music, and as a recording engineer for live bands, particularly traditional New Orleans jazz. After years of formulating how to pull it off, it's finally time for these worlds to collide.

This project is for funding to bring even more of the veteran New Orleans musicians into the studio to impart their sound to these tracks. From there I'll weave what they do into something that I hope will sound simultaneously new and timeless - electronic dance music with the classic flavor of New Orleans.

New Orleans has been known as a hotbed of fantastic music for over a century. What's more, there's something uniquely awesome about the way New Orleans musicians play - it's funky, loose, and delightfully expressive and raw. Nobody plays like they play down here. My years as a performer and engineer have put me in the loop with a lot of these top notch cats who play with that authentic New Orleans flavor. My rolodex is swollen with badass musicians. I think I'm an excellent candidate to trailblaze that unique vibe into the electronic music realm.
