Thanks for helping contribute to an awesome New Orleans music project! "Electronola - An electronic gumbo of New Orleans music"

UPDATE: As you can see in the above widget, Earl has successfully raised the fundage needed to make the Electronola album a reality! Thanks to all who kicked in a bit to make it happen!

My mang Earl (aka Madd Wikkid) needs your support in order to make this project a reality...

here's the copy verbatim from Earl's project pitch:

For a long time I've been living a double life: as "The Madd Wikkid", a producer of electronic music, and as a recording engineer for live bands, particularly traditional New Orleans jazz. After years of formulating how to pull it off, it's finally time for these worlds to collide.

This project is for funding to bring even more of the veteran New Orleans musicians into the studio to impart their sound to these tracks. From there I'll weave what they do into something that I hope will sound simultaneously new and timeless - electronic dance music with the classic flavor of New Orleans.

New Orleans has been known as a hotbed of fantastic music for over a century. What's more, there's something uniquely awesome about the way New Orleans musicians play - it's funky, loose, and delightfully expressive and raw. Nobody plays like they play down here. My years as a performer and engineer have put me in the loop with a lot of these top notch cats who play with that authentic New Orleans flavor. My rolodex is swollen with badass musicians. I think I'm an excellent candidate to trailblaze that unique vibe into the electronic music realm.

ZOMG APC40 Unboxing & GERONIMO MUSIC FEST

Akai APC40 - Opening the box from Tom Cosm on Vimeo.

I can't believe how unbelievably torturous it's been waiting for the APC40 to finally be released... I pre-ordered this in JANUARY, and it will finally be in my hands this weekend (sadly, not in enough time to use it at the Geronimo Music Festival in Lafayette, LA on May 30, though)

CHECKITYO

Click on the flier for Geronimo's MySpace page...

And in case you haven't seen it yet, here's The Extravagant Traveller's (sic) nauseatingly good routine he's already jammed out using an APC40 he got his hands on early (lucky duck)...

Major Lazer - Hold The Line (Remixes)

This has been floating around the blogs for a bit now, and normally if I see it EVERYWHERE, I think,"Why bother?" I try to avoid it if it wasn't kicked my way in the first place by the source.

HOWEVER

The LehtMoJoe remix of Major Lazer's "Hold The Line" is a deft little mashup with contextual awareness that possesses that rare link of relevance.

And luckily, RCRDLBL has put it up for your consumption.

plus, if you didn't grab it before, what's wrong with you, mang?

DubFX (aka "You owe me some new pants" MC)

Dub FX 10/10/2008 Part 2 from Ben Dowden on Vimeo.

I saw this over at the fellow MS blog G!Power and I have to say that as it starts, I thought,"Okay, I've seen this before..." Hell, I myself have even done the beatboxing-thing with multi-track loopers (although not really well enough to run with it, admittedly), so I wasn't really hoping for much, since I've seen really REALLY good people do it (Jamie Lidell and Beardyman spring to mind).

But HOLY HELL this output is spit polished and so tight, it shimmers and glistens with quality.

Go check his MySpace and show him some lub.

EDIT: here's another vid.

The Presets >> Kicking and Screaming (Drlkt Freddie Werewolves in the Woods Remix)

Blue Moon

Drlkt Freddie have worked up a superb and spooky remix of "Kicking and Screaming" with a chopped up bassline, stuttered vocals, and well done busy-but-not-noisy drums (the wood blocks are doing it for me) and rave-til-dawn buildups (hah).
